Instagram is introducing a new “AI-generated profile” label for accounts built around synthetic personas and says profiles that fail to use it may have their reach reduced. The label replaces Instagram’s previous “AI creator” designation and is intended specifically for accounts that present an AI-generated person rather than a real human.
The change targets a narrower category than AI-generated content overall. Instagram is not requiring every account that uses generative tools to adopt the label. Instead, the rule applies to profiles centered on fictional people created with AI. “We've heard from our community that they don't like coming across a profile that seems human, only to find out later that the person featured is AI-generated,” an Instagram spokesperson said. Accounts that feature AI-generated people but do not identify themselves accordingly “may soon see limits to their reach,” the spokesperson added.
