Anthropic has launched Claude for Google Workspace in public beta, bringing Claude directly into Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides while also letting users create and edit those file types from the Claude interface. The integration is available across all paid Claude plans and gives the assistant direct access to the file a user has open, including selected text, cells, or slides.
The update gives Claude two ways to work with Google files. Inside Workspace, Claude appears in a sidebar next to the document, spreadsheet, or presentation. From Claude itself, users can paste a Google file link or ask the assistant to create a new Doc, Sheet, or Slides presentation and then work on it beside the chat.
Anthropic previously allowed Claude to access Google Workspace content through connectors, but the new setup adds direct, live editing inside Google’s productivity apps. The company is also releasing separate Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides connectors in beta so Claude can create and modify those files from its own interface.
In Docs, Claude can make targeted edits without changing nearby formatting. Larger rewrites appear as proposed changes that users can review before applying. Anthropic says the system can handle tasks such as tightening an executive summary or converting a list of next steps into a table within the original document.
Sheets adds a broader set of actions. Claude can write formulas, build pivot tables, create native charts, add tabs, and manipulate spreadsheet data directly. For more complex work such as joins or data cleaning, the assistant can move a range into Python, process it there, and write the result back into the spreadsheet.
Slides uses the layouts and themes already present in a presentation when generating new slides. Claude can also check its work for overlapping elements, content extending outside slide boundaries, and text that may be difficult to read.
Users can control how much editing happens automatically. The default “Ask before edits” mode requires approval before changes are applied. An “Accept all edits” option allows Claude to continue through a task without requesting confirmation for every individual change.
The new integration also carries over Claude’s wider toolset. Users who sign in with their Claude account can access the same models, connectors, and Skills they use elsewhere. Anthropic says, for example, Claude could build a quarterly business review deck using customer history from Salesforce and call notes from Google Drive while following a reusable workflow saved as a Skill.
Enterprise controls also extend to the Google Workspace add-on. Anthropic says features including the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys, and OpenTelemetry audit exports remain available for enterprise customers using the integration.
The release moves Claude further into the same productivity environment where Google already offers Gemini. Gemini is built into Workspace and can work with Docs, Sheets, and other Google services, while Microsoft has also expanded Copilot so it can perform multi-step actions inside Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Anthropic already offers Claude inside Microsoft’s Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications, making the Google release part of a broader push to place Claude directly inside the software employees use for everyday work.
There is also an unusual overlap with Microsoft. Microsoft has said some of its more agentic Office editing features use Anthropic models, meaning Anthropic is both supplying AI technology to parts of Copilot and competing with Microsoft through its own application integrations.
Claude for Google Workspace can be installed from the Google Workspace Marketplace. Administrators can deploy it across an entire domain or only to selected groups. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner or primary owner must first enable the Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides connectors for users who want to edit those files from Claude.
Anthropic has not announced a separate fee for the integration. Access is included with paid Claude plans during the beta.
